Where the short-term bicycle traffic on the footpaths in the Vliegenbos in North has recently caused a lot of disagreement, the district has now found a solution. A cycle path through the forest should bring cyclists from Nieuwendammerdijk to the Zamenhofstraat ferry stop faster. However, not everyone agrees with the construction of that cycle path.

A number of activists therefore went into the Vliegenbos on Tuesday evening to stop the passing cyclists and ask them to cycle. Those who were willing to do so received a t-shirt from the activists as a thank you with the text ‘I’m over: not by, but for the Vliegenbos.’
‘Bicycle path disturbs nature’
Anyone who thinks that a cycle path can cause little damage is wrong, according to initiator Vera Steenhart. ‘The cut for cyclists means the death knell for the forest.’ According to her and the other activists, this cycle route will become extremely busy and that will have negative consequences for nature. ‘Animals that live here need animals that live in other places, and what you do is drive a big wedge into it.’
One of the cyclists who is stopped in the Vliegenbos understands activists. ‘It is not a very gigantic park so you can also think of it, I will immediately go around it.’ Another visitor to the park also indicates that he is against the cycle path. “All those winding paths are made just to lose yourself for a moment.”
