BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com – Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Machmudin, said that the Wolbachia mosquito developed by the Ministry of Health is believed to be able to reduce the number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) cases in West Java.
In West Java, as many as 60,000 Wolbachia mosquito eggs were distributed in Ujung Berung District, Bandung City. The function of mosquitoes is to inhibit the development of the dengue virus.
“The development of mosquitoes to reduce dengue fever numbers. This has been tested, actually good for the future, to reduce mosquitoes that carry dengue mosquitoes,” said Bey after the West Java Akur (Safe, Conducive and Harmonious) Declaration at the Saparua GOR, Bandung City, Monday ( 11/27/2023).

He said that the West Java and Bandung City Health Services had intensified outreach regarding the benefits of spreading mosquitoes.
The public is also asked not to worry about the effects of mosquitoes. The reason is that it has been tested by the Ministry of Health.
“It’s not something dangerous, it actually protects us for the future. The socialization is carried out in stages according to needs. We hope there will be no rejection. Actually the aim is good for all of us, right,” said Bey.

Previously, the Head of the Bandung City Health Service (Kadinkes), Anhar Hadian, said that the Wolbachia mosquito distribution program was expected to reduce dengue fever cases in the area.
The Wolbachia mosquito program has been carried out in a number of cities and has proven effective in reducing dengue fever cases in Yogyakarta by 70 percent.
“We, together with the Ministry of Health, UGM and related parties, are evaluating the Wolbachia mosquito program,” said Anhar on Saturday (25/11/2023).
