TOKYOUnited States (US) Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized China’s threat to regional stability. He also warned that the US and Japan would push back.

This was disclosed during bilateral talks in Tokyo, Japan, Tuesday (16/3/2021).

Blinken and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with their counterparts in Tokyo for a series of bilateral talks and a joint “2 + 2” session. This marks the first international trip by Cabinet officials Joe Biden.

The meeting comes right after President Joe Biden met the leaders of India, Australia and Japan in a virtual summit last Friday, during his first multilateral summit as President.

“We believe in democracy and human rights, the rule of law, because we have seen how our own country is stronger because we uphold those values. And because they are under threat in many places, including in the region,” he said. Blinken during a joint press conference in Tokyo, pointed to the recent military coup and mass protests in Myanmar as examples.

China uses coercion and aggression to systemically erode autonomy in Hong Kong, undermine democracy in Taiwan, abuse human rights in Xinjiang and Tibet, and assert maritime claims in the South China Sea that violate international law,” he added.

“We will push back if necessary when China uses coercion or aggression to get what it wants,” he was quoted as saying. CNN.
