Madrid, May 17 (EFE) .- ACS, through Dragados, bids together with three other international consortiums in the contract to design, build, operate and maintain an elevated train that serves the Newark Liberty International Airport, in the north of the state of New Jersey (USA), valued at about 1,650 million euros.
Specifically, ACS is listed in a consortium with Halmar International, Schiavone Construction, HDR Engineering and BYD Transit Solutions, according to official data.
In addition, the other three consortiums prequalified by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey include companies such as SNC-Lavalin, Mitsubishi, AECOM, Alstom or Parsons Construction, among others.
After this first cut, the four shortlisted consortia will now advance in the request for proposals phase and the project is expected to start in mid-2022.
The construction of the new rail link (AirTrain Newark, as it is called) will replace a system that was commissioned in 1996 but has become obsolete over the years.
In addition, it will complement the new Terminal A, which will open next year.
Infrastructure will be key to modernizing and improving efficiency at Newark Liberty International Airport and is expected to benefit air travelers as well, as well as those who will use the new AirTrain as a way to get to their jobs at the airport.
The new rail link will be a 2.5 mile elevated track and is a critical component of the Newark Liberty modernization. In addition, the new system will improve connections with other forms of transport and provide new locations, digital tools and services in stations and vehicles.
As noted by Port Authority President Kevin O’Toole, the existing AirTrain Newark has outlived its useful life and is in desperate need of replacement. Once completed, this new system will provide a state-of-the-art travel experience and a high level of service to airport customers and employees, he said.
Newark Liberty International Airport, one of the largest in the United States, is located between the cities of Newark and Elizabeth, 15 miles from New York.
