Three teenagers were acquitted this afternoon of involvement in the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old man in Amsterdam Osdorp more than a year ago. According to the court, the main suspect acted in self-defense, writes NH News.
The Public Prosecutor had one year of juvenile detention against the main suspect, who was 15 years old when the stabbing took place. The other two boys are 17 years old. Community service sentences of 80 and 120 hours were demanded against them.
The 29-year-old man from Nijmegen got into a fight with the three underage boys in mid-January after work in Amsterdam. That happened near a popular coffee shop at the Sloterplas.
Protest against senseless violence
One of the teens grabbed a knife and stabbed the man three times. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital the same day. Local residents held one two weeks later stilteprotest against senseless violence.
The Public Prosecution Service was convinced that the boys could have known that the stabbing incident could have ended badly and spoke of conditional intent. The judge rules that there is serious defense because the 29-year-old himself also used considerable violence.
The investigation shows that the 29-year-old man, together with two colleagues, used considerable violence against the boys. For example, one of the teenagers was allegedly beaten and kicked while lying on the floor. The judge said he then stabbed him.
