Turkey correspondent Mitra Nazar:
We know that Saudi Arabia has put pressure on Turkey to close the Khashoggi case. Now the situation for Turkey is different from a few years ago. Erdogan is working hard to strengthen ties with the Saudis. There is diplomatic contact again and there are visits back and forth.
This is important for Turkey because there is money in Saudi Arabia that is badly needed here. The Turkish currency has crashed and this country has an unprecedented high inflation.
President Erdogan will visit the Saudi king soon, during Ramadan. It is of course no coincidence that the court is making this decision now, just before such a conciliatory meeting.
