Acquittal for Twente police inspector who detained colleague

A 56-year-old police inspector in Enschede has not committed any criminal offenses in the arrest in 2016 of an Amsterdam colleague.

The arrested officer accused his Enschede colleague of racism, among other things. The violence used in the arrest was not proportional, according to the Amsterdam agent. According to the court in Zwolle, the inspector has not done anything punishable, reports RTV East.

On May 27, 2016, the Amsterdam agent, who was not in office at that time, was with his brother and father at the office in Enschede to report a fraud. The desk employees indicated that they had to file a report via the internet, but the officer insisted.

The Enschede agent was on duty at that time and said he was told that the colleagues behind the desk felt intimidated. They therefore arrested the man.

Article 12 procedure

The Public Prosecution Service ruled at an earlier stage that the Enschede agent had committed a criminal act. Justice wanted to refrain from prosecution if the man was reprimanded. When that happened, the Enschede agent started an article 12 procedure himself, which meant that the OM had to prosecute. As a result, the man was acquitted today.

The police of Amsterdam and the east of the Netherlands have an independent in March this year Commission established to investigate and evaluate the course of the case. The results are expected to be announced this year.
