Accusing Samsung of plagiarizing iPhone, Apple boss: They suck

Jakarta

Competition between teams Android and iPhone still continues. Even an executive Apple participate in rekindling the fire of competition by accusing Samsung imitate the design of the iPhone.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the birth of the iPhone, Apple’s Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak was asked how much influence Samsung and other Android phone vendors had on the development of the iPhone at that time.

Joswiak replied that Android phone vendors at that time were annoying and accused them of imitating Apple’s technology badly.

“They suck. And they suck because, as you know, they imitate our technology,” said Joswiak, as quoted from MacRumors, Thursday (30/6/2022).

“They took the innovations we had created and made even worse copies, and just put on a bigger screen. So, yeah, we weren’t very happy.”

Samsung indeed, first introduced a large screen phone in 2013 through the Galaxy S4 which has a 5 inch screen. At the same time, the iPhone 5 has a 4-inch screen.

Apple then caught up with the launch of the iPhone 6 which carries a 4.7-inch screen and the iPhone 6 Plus which measures 5.5 inches in 2014. This decision bore fruit because the iPhone 6 series became one of the best-selling iPhones of all time.

In fact, during his lifetime, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs criticized large-screen phones made by other vendors because they were difficult for users to use and would not sell well.

Due to phone design issues, Apple sued Samsung in 2011 for alleged patent infringement. They accuse Samsung of plagiarizing iPhone designs for use in Galaxy phones.

Apple was initially awarded $1 billion in damages, but that amount was lowered in a subsequent retrial. In 2018, Apple finally made peace with Samsung.
