Intercargo is the state-owned enterprise which is responsible for aircraft handling, a service that includes loading and unloading luggage in the hold, providing stairs, and towing the aircraft.
The company provides services to all airlines operating in the country except three: Aerolíneas Argentinas, American Airlines and Flybondi.
From Intercargo, they added: “Conduct that threatens quality is not permitted. of the service it provides, with the highest levels of security and professionalism.”
Changes in Intercargo
Last week, on the same day in which two decrees were published that regulated the aeronautical service as “essential”the Government granted the authorization and certification to the airline Flybondi to provide ramp services to other airlines, a scenario that aims to break the near monopoly held by the state-owned firm.
With this move, the Government takes away Intercargo’s monopoly and positions Flybondi as a competitor, as stated by Flybondi’s CEO, Mauricio Sana.
“Now, we are certified to offer it to other airlines, providing a new option for the rest of the national and international companies and reaffirming the solidity of our operation,” said the executive.
The government’s authorization goes beyond the commercial: the Intercargo company has been used over the last 15 years as an extension of Aerolíneas Argentinas’ commercial policy, mainly to “serve” flights from direct competitors such as LATAM Argentina at one time.
In the same vein, over the last three weeks the demands of the aeronautical unions negotiating their salary negotiations with Aerolíneas have been combined with the “informative meetings” of Intercargo staff.
