A citizen of the Island was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison for a murder committed last year in the municipality of Boyeros, in Havana, this in an incident related to an illegal departure from the country.
According to a special report broadcast during the Cuban Television News, the case began to be investigated after the victim’s body was found.
Agents from the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) determined that she had been murdered with a knife. After identifying the deceased, the investigation determined that the incident was related to an illegal departure from the country.
This outing was organized by four people, who proposed to build an improvised boat, however, the victim, who had to provide his car to transport the group, regretted it at the last minute.
The situation sparked a fight in which the victim ended up being stabbed by the accused. The other members of the group stole the deceased’s vehicle and continued with plans to escape the country.
After that, the vehicle was disassembled and sold for parts.
The news does not give many details about what happened next, but points out that those involved were detained by the authorities, including one who did manage to escape by sea. The latter would have been detained by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and returned to the Island.
The state press affirms that all those involved ended up confessing their participation during the interrogations to which they were subjected.
The oral hearing of case 74 of 2023 took place this week in the Provincial Court of Havana, where in addition to the accused for murder in Boyeros, four other accused were sentenced with penalties of between 10 and 13 years for the crimes of deprivation of liberty and human trafficking.
