Accused of Chinese Spies, US Police Officers Summarized Page Officers

NEW YORK, KOMPAS.com – A New York police officer (NYPD), United States of America ( AS), Baimadajie Angwang (33) is accused of acting as agent spy government China.

According to the prosecutor, he regularly contacts members of the Chinese Consulate and provides intelligence on ethnicity Tibet in New York City CBS News, Monday (21/9/2020).

The federal complaint also accuses Angwang of committing fraud against the US Defense Department, providing false statements, and obstructing official proceedings.

Angwang works in the public affairs unit in Queens, New York, USA, and is registered as a staff sergeant in the Reservist Force Army USA, stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in the Airborne Civil Affairs battalion.

He holds a “secret” level security clearance because of his job as a US Army Reservist.

Angwang is a native Chinese Tibetan and naturalized US citizen who lives in Williston Park, New York.

Prosecutors claim that since 2014, Angwang has “reported the activities of ethnic Tibetans, and others, in the New York metropolitan area to the Consulate”.

Prosecutors also said Angwang was looking at and assessing potential ethnic Tibetan intelligence sources in the New York metropolitan area and beyond.

The complaint also alleges that Angwang granted Chinese Consulate officials “access to senior NYPD officials by invitation to official NYPD events”.

“None of these activities fall within the scope of Angwang’s official duties and responsibilities with the NYPD or US Army Reserves,” the complaint said.

“As alleged in this federal complaint, Baimadajie Angwang broke every oath he took in this country. One to the US, one to the US Army, and the third to this Police Department,” said the Commissioner. Police Dermot Shea.

Shea added that from the early stages of the investigation, the NYPD Intelligence and Internal Affairs bureau was working with the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division to ensure that Angwang was brought to justice.

Angwang was ordered to be detained by a federal judge at a virtual hearing on Monday afternoon.

He will face trial in the next few days on bail, but a date has not been set.

If convicted, Angwang is threatened with 55 years in prison.
