Accused acquitted in trial in Mallorca

The Audiencia court in Palma de Mallorca acquitted all the accused in the trial of an action critical of tourism in 2017. It was considered proven on Friday that no violence had emanated from the demonstrators at the time, it was said as a reason. The court also believes that most of the defendants were not present at the rally at the time.

In July 2017, members of the Catalan youth organization Arran threw confetti at restaurant visitors at the “Moll Vell” pier. Paint was also sprayed. The demonstration participants wanted to protest against the massification of tourism.

Only two of the eleven accused could be identified beyond doubt on photos. The court also found that nothing had been destroyed.

Prosecutors had requested up to four years in prison for some of the accused.
