As the president of the association of steak sellers of Attica reports to MEGA, even in popular neighborhoods of Athens and Piraeus, new increases will be made, which will raise the cost even more. The wrapped souvlaki is ready in record time to even reach 4.50 euros.
The wrapped souvlaki in Attica is expected to increase in price by €0.30 in the coming months, before Christmas. And so in Piraeus it is expected to reach 4 euros, in Kallithea 3.90, in Aigaleo 3.80 and in areas of the Northern and Southern Suburbs 4.50 euros.
What is happening in Thessaloniki
In the co-capital the souvlaki is even more expensive than in Athens.
No matter how you look, the prices range at the same high levels. With the sandwich in the city’s souvlazzi, it can even reach 6 euros.
Within a few years – as one woman says – the prices in the kebab shops doubled. While some – as they say – were forced to reduce the frequency of orders and others the quantities to bring costs under control.
Price comparisons are indicative. The price for a wrapped souvlaki in Attica ranged from €3 to €3.70 a year ago. This year, before the increases expected in the next period, the prices are at 3.40 to 4.20 euros each.
Steakhouse owners say they are powerless to contain prices, with consumers seeing the cost of everyday living rise, with wages for most staying the same.
In Mykonos the most expensive wrap
For history, the most expensive souvlaki in the country is sold in Mykonos, with its price even reaching 15 euros in the summer.
The times when souvlaki were considered cheap for most Greek households seem to have passed forever. Prices are rising and now it is only a matter of time before we see the wrapped souvlaki at 4.50 euros, in areas of Attica.
