Accuracy: Power bills are putting businesses out of budget – 2024-08-01 19:57:37

Almost 40% increase records the average wholesale electricity price in July compared to June, a rate that is causing panic among households and businesses who fear what they will pay on their August electricity bills.

With last month’s bill already skyrocketing, homeowners fear the next electricity bill will put them out of budget.

In several businesses, the electricity consumption due to electrical devices is necessarily very high, with the result that, as the owners say, they are forced to close the business for a few hours to save electricity.

Other businesses are also looking for ways to save electricity so they can pay their next bill.

The prime minister also spoke about state electricity subsidies in the cabinet.

“I hope this is something we don’t have to do more often than necessary. However, in any case, we remain absolutely vigilant in order to ensure the orderly operation of the electricity market and relative stability and predictability in electricity prices”stated Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Despite the ministry’s latest announcements about government subsidies to households, consumers are worried about the “inflated” bills of the last month.
