Pumpanen tells Iltalehti that he was initially asked to audition for another role. The host had mentioned during the job interview that he was also interested in other roles.
– The funny thing about this is that about 1-2 years ago I had thought that it would be nice to experience Salkkari sometime. I thought it’s a pretty legendary series and it would be awesome to be a part of it. In addition, I have heard from my acquaintances and interviewees how good the group is there, says the presenter.
– Suddenly I received an email in which I was offered a role. I thought there must be some guidance from the universe here, he laughs.

It’s great for Pumpase to join the program. That much Pumpanen can reveal about his role is that it is very different compared to himself.
– You could say that he is involved in various businesses. He is very wealthy, self-aware and knows what he wants. He is a one of a kind case. The main thing we have in common is that I’ve driven a similar car in real life, he says with a laugh.
The continuation of the character’s story is a mystery for now.
– You never know what will be done to my role in the future. We’ll see if my role could grow. How do you know that, he says mysteriously.

“A look of excitement”
For Pumpanen, filming began at the beginning of April. Naturally, the presenter was very excited about the first day of filming and the meeting of the working group. He soon found out the same as his acquaintances who have also been in Salkkarei.
– It was easy to jump on the bandwagon. There was a really warm and good feeling from the group, the actor expressed.

Pumpase already has experience in acting. He has been seen, among other things Harjunpää– and The bison mafia-series as well as Posse– in the sketches of the TV series. Despite his experience, one thing came as a surprise to him during the filming of Salkkarit.
– Episodes often end with a “stare of excitement”, i.e. a long stare. At first I wondered how long I had to stare at this. For example Sami Uotilan and we stared at each other at the end of the scene, and maybe he recognized from my look that I was thinking about these things. Then Sami said: “Yeah, it’s surprising how long it takes to create that drama”. It seems amusing, because the moments in front of the camera can seem unnaturally long, Pumpanen states.
– We have worked with Sami before, when he guided me James Deanin in a musical about life, he reveals.

Pumpanen has also learned some interesting things on the set.
– I can say that I’ve learned to run in high heels really well – or inelegantly, depending on how you take it, he laughs.
What about in the future?
Pumpanen says that he succeeded well in combining the Salkkarit filming with his other works. He has learned the hard way to organize his work gig sensibly.
– I have sometimes done two big live broadcasts and theater at the same time. It was so hard that I might not do it in the future. But sometimes nothing can be done about them, he admits.
Pumpanen’s current work situation is such that he would be able to combine the production and acting work very well. He could imagine that he will continue to act, even in bigger roles.
– It’s a matter of organization if a good job offer comes along, he says at the end.
