According to Todd Howard, there are complicated romantic relationships in Starfield

Starfield fans have been a bit hungry for news lately. Fortunately, Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios will recently appear in the videocast of Lex Friedman.

As usual, Howard went into detail on a wide variety of topics and games, including Starfield itself. One of the main novelties revealed by the designer is the emphasis on more complex romantic relationships than in previous Bethesda games. They will be presented in four companions available to the player.

One of the things we pushed into Starfield is that it’s more complex with companions than it was in terms of not just whether or not they like you. They may be in love with you, they may not like what you did, they may be temporarily mad at you and then love you again. In many games, you level up, he likes you more and more and now you are in a relationship. When you make him mad you walk away like it never happened while we wish everything was fine we could be in a relationship and we are somehow connected to each other but i just did something that really pissed you off. Instead of simply breaking out of this state, you are in a temporary “I don’t like what you did” state.

Of course this is due to the extensive dialogue/persuasion system Todd Howard discussed earlier. The well-known game designer spoke extensively about Starfield in the videocast, confirming that different suits provide different toxicity and/or heat resistance buffs, which will be crucial when exploring planets with extreme weather conditions. He also revealed that star systems would have levels and therefore a certain complexity would be associated with them.

Starfield has been pushed back to the first half of 2023 along with Arkane’s Redfall. In this regard, Howard stated that the team wanted to say that they could have finished the game by the original release date of 11/11/22 (exactly eleven years after the launch of Skyrim), but it was too big a risk for both Xbox than for fans.
