According to the resident ‘s report, a drunk driver with a hunting rifle is detained in Aloja district In the spotlight

Thanks to the resident’s report, a drunk driver with a hunting rifle was detained in Aloja region, informs Zane Vaskāne, a senior specialist of the Vidzeme Region Office of the State Police (VP).

On Saturday, July 4, the VP received an eyewitness call about a driver in Aloja region who was probably sitting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol. The received information was handed over to the inspectors of the Patrol Police Division of the Vidzeme Region Office of the VP, who started searching for the vehicle. After a short while, the police noticed the vehicle. Using light and sound signals, an order was given to stop the vehicle, Vaskāne said.

The driver stopped the vehicle. A conversation was started with the man, during which the information provided by the eyewitness was confirmed. During the alcohol test, it was found that the driver was sitting under the influence of alcohol (1.9 per mille). Also, when inspecting the trunk of the car, a hunting rifle was found and removed, thus violating the rules for carrying weapons. The police are currently checking the facts and a decision on responsibility will be made, the police representative added.

Police recall that alcohol and driving of any kind are two incompatible things and that a drunk driver not only endangers his own health and life, but also poses a threat to other road users. We urge you to take care of your own and your fellow people’s safety and under no circumstances sit behind the wheel of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, nor do you sit in a car with an intoxicated driver behind the wheel.

“We urge you not to remain indifferent and in situations when there are reasonable suspicions that the driver is sitting under the influence of the wheel, to report it to the State Police by calling 110,” Vaskāne suggested.
