They digitized the 56 mock-ups from the exhibition that marked the beginning of the Museum of Medicine at the University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”.
A collection of wax figures is unique to the country. Sharing it digitally will help not only students but also other medical professionals.
During the digitization, the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov, MD, was also present, who followed the process with interest.
The invited specialists are partners in the UNITE Center of Excellence project from Ruse University and are leaders in the digitization of cultural and historical heritage sites.
A few months ago, they digitized a large part of the exhibits of the Regional History Museum in Burgas and Aqua Kalide Tourist Complex. The head of the team from Ruse is Prof. Georgi Hristov.
The idea for the digitization of the exhibition came from the head of the Directorate for Digitization, Postgraduate and Distance Education Prof. Evdokia Sotirova.
Moulages are three-dimensional wax models that realistically depict diseases with manifestations on the skin and visible mucous membranes.
There are about 20 known mock meetings in different countries in Europe and most of them are located in large university centers.
In the past, wax models were used in the training process of students and doctors. Today they are carefully preserved for their great historical and academic value.
In Bulgaria, until recently, only the mock collection was known, which the Clinic for Skin and Venereal Diseases in Alexandrovska Hospital is proud of. Recently, University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” is the proud owner of the exhibition.
The creation of the museum was initiated by the Faculty of Medicine and the Association of Medical Students in Bulgaria – Burgas, who took an active part in the preparation of the exhibition. Anyone can visit and explore it for free.
