According to the newspaper “Le Canard Enchainé”, the highest paid elected official in France is a Corsican nationalist – Corsica Oggi

It’s the kind of news the nationalist camp could do without. Even more so at a time when negotiations with Paris on the institutional future of Corsica are resuming. The same week in which the visit to the island of Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Territorial Affairs and Decentralisation, who is currently the main interlocutor between local elected officials and the State on the issue of Corsica’s autonomy, takes place.

In its latest edition, published as usual on Wednesday, the famous satirical newspaper published an article from the title“The highest paid elected official in France is a Corsican nationalist“. The online newspaper Corse Net Infos shared a copy of the article, allowing us to read it in full. The official in question is Alexandre Vinciguerra, councilor of the Community of Corsica and president of ADEC (Corsican Economic Development Agency). According to the newspaper, Vinciguerra receives a total salary of 19,105 euros per month, more than the President of the Republic himself.

Most importantly, Vinciguerra’s income exceeds what is authorized by law, i.e “a total amount of salaries and allowances exceeding one and a half times the so-called basic parliamentary allowance (5,931.95 euros gross)“. While his monthly salary as city councilor and president of ADEC is 3,340 euros per month, it is his position as president of CADEC (Corsica Development Fund) to exceed the limits, with approximately 15,265 euros received each month.

Alexandre Vinciguerra responded to these accusations, as we learned shortly afterwards in an article on RCFM. He reiterated that holding multiple positions is perfectly legal and declared that his salary was not 19,105 euros, but 12,000 euros. Vinciguerra stated that “understand the emotion aroused by an article that announces, in a partial and misleading way, that an elected official enjoys a high level of remuneration, even more so in a context of precariousness and economic and social difficulties“, but added that “any other person who receives income from their work” is legitimate to be elected.
