So far, Iran has been rather reserved about the explosions heard over one of the cities, and an Iranian official in Tehran has indicated that he does not plan to retaliate immediately, reports the Reuters.
Iranian media and officials spoke of some of the explosions on Friday. CNN previously reported that officials said Iran’s air defense intercepted three drones over the city of Isfahan.
The commander-in-chief of the Iranian army said that the air defense fired at some suspicious object. “Experts are investigating the case and will inform you about the case after receiving the results” – He told Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, according to an IRNA report. THE CNN said the commander-in-chief’s comments were in line with an earlier report by Iran’s Tasnim news agency that there was no damage from the explosion.
“The foreign source of the operation has not been confirmed,” an Iranian official told Reuters. He talked about the fact that instead of an external attack, they are leaning towards some sort of infiltration action.
Inside Iran, the news about Friday’s incident did not yet mention Israel, and experts on state television downplayed the impact of the incident. An analyst said that those infiltrating Iran’s territory could have coordinated the drones, which were destroyed by the air defense. Iran reopened its airports and airspace in the morning.
Israel has not said anything about the incident, but has said for days that it plans to retaliate against Iran for Saturday’s strikes. Allies, including the United States, on the other hand, called for any further response to be planned in such a way as not to increase the tension between the two countries much more.
Several American newspapers and TV stations were told by American officials that Israel had carried out a military strike against Iran. To CNN one of the sources said that the United States was given advance notice on Thursday that a strike was planned in the coming days, but the United States did not support a response.
