Beef production in the first half of the year It rose 4% compared to what was registered in the same period of 2021, with 1.5 million tons.
At a press conference attended by the Secretary of Agriculture, Matthias Lestani; the Undersecretary of Livestock, Jose Maria Romero and the president of Senasa, Diana Guillén, The Agriculture portfolio also said that the average weight of the beef increased to 231 kilos, a growth of 7 kilos since 2020.
This means that there is an increase in the supply of meat in the market, which should act as a downward factor in consumer prices.
“We also observed an increase in year-on-year per capita consumption, a recovery that continues to consolidate us as the first country in the planet for beef consumption, followed by Uruguay and the United States,” Lestani explained.
In turn, in the first semester the slaughter closed at 6,482,826 heads, with an increase of 2% compared to 2021. “With that 2% of the slaughter we have increased 4% of production”, Romero said. He indicated that meat consumption has gradually recovered and is working on it. In general terms, he maintained, “livestock is going through a good time.”
At the conference they highlighted that the expectations are to exceed three million tons and maintain this trend.
“Bearing in mind that one of the main objectives of the Plan GanAr [créditos blandos para la ganadería] is to obtain more kilograms per slaughtered animal, the actions are focused on making this productive improvement sustainable”, officials explained.
