Chip shortages will continue for some time to come. This was stated by the future head of the German automotive supplier Bosch Bosch Stefan Hartung in an interview with Focus magazine. “The chip crisis is not over,” he said.

Chips are becoming an increasingly important part of cars. Their global shortage is now limiting production in the automotive industry worldwide, including the Czech Republic. According to DPA, Bosch is the largest supplier of automotive components in the world.
“It is very important for the whole of German industry that supply problems are solved. Any missing chip may mean that it will not be possible to produce the whole car. This will cost us a lot of energy throughout 2022,” said Hartung, who Bosch will replace Volkmar Denner.

Hartung also warned that the chip crisis could jeopardize the German governing coalition’s plan to drive at least 15 million electric cars on German roads by 2030. According to Hartung, this goal will not be achieved “unless global supply chain problems are resolved soon.”
Bosch Chief Executive Officer Franz Fehrenbach warned this month that the European automotive sector is too dependent on Asia and other regions for important components such as semiconductors and battery cells.

The lack of parts also disrupted Škoda Auto’s production activities. This year, the carmaker had to significantly reduce or stop production several times. The company expects to produce about 250,000 fewer cars by the end of this year due to lack of parts. Last year, Škoda Auto delivered over a million cars worldwide.
