Brazilian soccer legend Pele’s health has deteriorated dramatically, according to his doctors. The three-time world champion has been undergoing treatment for colon cancer since last September and the former striker has been hospitalized in a clinic in Sao Paulo since the end of November.
Along with the worsening cancer, Pele’s doctors also diagnosed heart and kidney dysfunction, but he remains in his room.
A few days ago, the 82-year-old Pelé congratulated strikers Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé on their incredible battle for the top scorer in Sunday’s World Cup final in Qatar between Argentina and France. He also remembered the late Argentine legend Diego Maradona, by whom he is considered the best footballer of all time.
Doctors were supposed to evaluate the effects of chemotherapy during Pele’s scheduled check-up, but they also had to start treating him with the diagnosed inflammation of the airways. After his hospitalization, the family denied media reports that Pelé was no longer responding to chemotherapy and had been placed on palliative care.
