According to Sully Erna there will be no more new music

Even before the release of their current album “Lighting Up The Sky” (2023), Godsmack announced that they would not be releasing any further music. In an interview with the Detroit radio station WRIF confirmed Fronter Sully Erna again that nothing has changed in this decision (via Blabbermouth).

No new material from Godsmack

When asked if the band is currently working on new music, the musician replied: “No. There will be nothing new Godsmack give. I mean, you can never predict the future. But the decision that was made was that we’re going to go out and start honoring our catalog of music over the last 30 years and just enjoy the greatest hits.”

The possibility of releasing singles instead of albums lasts Erna Although it’s smart these days, it’s also not an option for the band:

“That’s another argument for us to get out while we’re still in the world we grew up loving – producing full-length albums and giving fans a complete experience through the work you created has. I no longer want to put a year or a year and a half of my time, effort, blood, sweat and tears into a piece of art for someone to tear it apart, grab a few singles and move on.

And then there’s the fact that we have a lot of singles at the moment. I mean, 27 top ten singles is a lot. This means we can’t even play them all in one night, because we usually play around 15 songs a night on average. That’s why I think it’s time to honor the music and our catalog and give the fans what they want to hear.”

Focus on live shows

In the Power Hourshow affirmed Erna last year that fans even made this decision “more” from the band, especially with regard to the live shows. The “tedious stuff you do in the studio” now fall away. “I mean, it’s cool – you get a glimpse behind the scenes every now and then, but really you come to the show to have a good time, have a few drinks, listen to music and have fun. And that’s what we can do now for the rest of our lives, as long as we want.”

Whether the group will come to Europe soon is still up in the air. Current are Erna and Co. on tour in the USA with Nothing More and Flat Black.
