According to Pabriks, there is currently no ethnic conflict between Latvians and Russians in Latvia

At present, there is no ethnic conflict between Latvians and Russians in Latvia, but a political conflict between different worldviews, such an opinion was expressed by Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks (AP) in LTV’s “Morning Panorama”.

Pabriks assessed that what happened at the Soviet monument in Pārdaugava on May 9 and 10 did not pose a threat from the point of view of national security, however, it is clear that there is a large enough part of the society that will obviously not and will not accept the Latvian state.

The Minister noted that the Latvian public was annoyed by the behavior of supporters of Russian aggression, but there was no ethnic conflict. If there are any measures that will continue to promote Russian propaganda, it will have to be countered with all the strictness of the law, the politician said.

Meanwhile, in order to strengthen the country’s military security, the Defense Department continues to prepare for the NATO Madrid Summit, which aims to increase the number of Allied troops stationed in Latvia from battalion to brigade level, which would mean a half-larger presence than at present.

Canada, on the other hand, will soon announce a more active involvement in the headquarters of the Northern Division in Latvia, Pabriks noted.
