The state secretary announced that by the February deadline, 120,990 people applied for the renewed Hungarian higher education, 22 percent more than two years ago. He recalled that two years ago, admissions were reconsidered, the system was made more flexible, and the admission results justify the measures. He put it this way: the state “stepped back from higher education”, universities were given more freedom.
The aim is for the institutions to be able to cooperate better with regional economic actors, for which we have given them the appropriate freedom

Many people study while working
Explaining the application data, he said: again this year, economics majors were chosen by the most, and the second most popular field was teacher training, with more than 17,000 applicants. Balázs Hankó also reported that every second applicant chose a rural university and more and more people from disadvantaged areas were admitted. He also said that more and more people study while working, more than 30,000 of the 121,000 applicants are over 30 years old.

– stated Balázs Hankó, who also mentioned that applicants can upload documents to the e-admission system between March 25 and July 10, and the point limits will be announced on July 24. He also reported that Hungarian universities are moving up in international rankings, especially the international recognition of medical and veterinary education. He noted that there are more and more courses in English and German in domestic institutions, which is very attractive to foreign students. There are currently around 43,000 foreign students studying here, most of them from Germany, the Scandinavian countries and China.
