According to a well-known insider, Far Cry 7 and Far Cry multiplayer will be set in Alaska

According to a new report from insider Tom Henderson, there are several Far Cry projects in the works. Far Cry 7, currently codenamed Project Blackbird, and a Far Cry multiplayer project codenamed Project Maverick are in development at Ubisoft Toronto. Interestingly, these projects were said to start out as a single game, originally conceived by longtime Far Cry producer Dan Hay, but when he left Ubisoft to become Blizzard’s general manager, the decision was made to split the game.

Henderson seems to know more about the multiplayer project Far Cry, which he claims is a Tarkov-style escape shooter with perma-death, a backpack system, contracts, and other features specific to the subgenre. He also claims that the game is set in Alaska.

Henderson knows less about Far Cry 7, but given that it shares a common origin with the multiplayer game Far Cry, he suggests that it could also be set in Alaska. Interestingly, back in 2015, Ubisoft asked fans about a possible location for a Far Cry game that featured Alaska.

Of course, take it with a grain of salt for now, but it all sounds plausible enough. In particular, the setting of Alaska would be perfect for Far Cry’s signature open-world gameplay.

Far Cry 7 and its multiplayer counterpart are tentatively slated for a fall 2025 release, Henderson said, though given Ubisoft’s recent issues, it’s probably not a good idea to get your hopes up for that release window.
