Since 2019, Airbnb has been deploying increasingly severe measures to fight illegal parties. As the end of the year approaches, the seasonal rental platform has strengthened the related system. Concretely, the holidays will be quite simply prohibited during the New Years Eve of December 31st in the accommodations it offers.

The seasonal rental generates additional income for the owners. This activity, however, changes the rules onHome Insurance, even if it lasts only a few days. Indeed, it is likely to cause material damage resulting from a fire, water damage or improvised parties.
For accommodations offered on Airbnb, this type of event is now prohibited. The ban has been in effect since the end of August 2020. Even on New Year’s Eve, the holidays remain prohibited. To prove that he does not intend to organize any, any customer who plans to make a reservation must complete a sworn statement.

Rules to be respected by tenants, but also by owners
To book on Airbnb, the customer must also fulfill another condition, namely have received at least one positive comment. For their part, guests are invited to update their internal regulations as precisely as possible. Concretely, it is their responsibility to remind applicants for rental that parties are prohibited.
If they don’t follow these rules, users (renters and owners) risk having their Airbnb accounts deleted. In addition, they incur legal proceedings for not having observed the rules.
These measures have been in force in France since December 3. They are also already applied in the United Kingdom, Spain, Australia, Mexico, Canada and the United States. The rental platform’s director of European public affairs, Patrick Robinson, ensures:
We know this time of festivities will be unlike any other. A minority of users could harm these festivities. This will not take place on Airbnb.
A Christmas Eve of December 31 without a party in France?
Airbnb has also planned to deploy agents who have received training on security issues during New Year’s Eve. The platform clarified that the reservation will be maintained for customers who have already made a reservation for December 31 or a period including this date. These users were not obliged to provide a sworn statement. In addition, those who did not necessarily have a minimum positive opinion were still able to book.

In France, can we imagine spending New Year’s Eve without a party? In any case, with the coronavirus pandemic, New Year’s Eve will certainly be special. Indeed, it will become more and more difficult to organize a party at home, the curfew being effective again since December 15. Guests must therefore take their leave before 8 p.m. If they cannot return home, a solution will have to be provided to allow them to sleep there.
