American film director William Friedkin has died in Los Angeles, according to Variety.
Friedkin was 87 years old.

Friedkin is one of the main directors “New Hollywood”. His most famous films are The French Connection and The Exorcist. For the first of them, he received an Oscar, for the second – a Golden Globe.
Friedkin’s other works include To Live and Die in Los Angeles, The Sorcerer, The Investigator, The Hunted, Glitches.
Friedkin’s last film was The Kane Mutiny Tribunal. It will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September.
