Offenbach / Maintal (dpa / lhe) – A large contingent of rescue workers has rescued a young canoeist from the Main. As a police spokesman said, the 14-year-old boy capsized his canoe on Sunday between Offenbach and Maintal (Main-Kinzig district) and then drifted on the river. Witnesses had alerted the fire brigade, which came with numerous emergency services and boats to save the canoeist.

After being rescued from the water, the youth was slightly hypothermic, as the police spokesman said. Why he capsized in the canoe was initially unclear. However, there are indications that a defect on the boat could have led to it, it said.
