A seven-year-old boy who was hit by a tram in Graz two weeks ago has died of his injuries in hospital.

On the evening of August 7, the child ran across the tracks near a stop on Conrad-von-Hötzendorf-Straße and was run over by a tram. As the Styrian State Police Directorate announced on Monday, the boy died on Friday in the Graz Regional Hospital.

Seven-year-old in Graz was resuscitated

The accident happened at around 8:45 p.m. in the Steyrergasse stop area. After a tram passed the stop heading out of town, the seven-year-old boy ran onto the tracks. He failed to see a tram on line 5 heading into town. Despite the tram’s emergency braking, the boy ended up under the tram. The Graz Fire Department had to lift the tram with a rescue cushion in order to rescue the child.

Rescue workers resuscitated the seven-year-old while he was being admitted to the Graz Regional Hospital. Doctors then fought in vain for the little boy’s life for more than a week.
