The operators of the Valle d’Aosta Alpine Rescue recovered the bodies of two mountaineers, a man and a woman, who had fallen from the Rothorn crest, at an altitude of 3,150 meters in Val d’Ayas, in Valle d’Aosta.
The searches
The research of the two mountaineers had started late yesterday evening after the report of non-return and continued throughout the night, by land, with the use of teams composed of technicians from the Valle d’Aosta Alpine Rescue, from the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di finance and fire brigade. This morning the helicopter overflight made it possible to identify the bodies of the two mountaineers, who were soon recovered and taken to the valley.
Hypothesis on the fall
At the time of the accident they were tied in storage, so it is not excluded that one of the two fell dragging the other downstream. They were last seen around 1pm on August 20. They had left Champoluc and should have returned by evening. The bodies were transferred to Ayas cemetery for the coroner’s disposal.
