Accident N59 Nieuwerkerk demands second life – HVZeeland

NIEUWERKERK – The accident last night on the Rijksweg (N59) near Nieuwerkerk has claimed a second life. The seriously injured victim still died, the police just reported.

Two passenger cars collided head-on between Capelleweg and Vissersweg around 2:50 am. One of the vehicles ended up upside down in a dry ditch, the other car came to a stop on the road. The 25-year-old driver of the latter vehicle, from Middelharnis, died on the spot.

The 22-year-old man from Nieuwerkerk who was in the car that ended up in the ditch turned out to be trapped. He had to be freed by the fire brigade. The man was rushed to a hospital, but police report that he later died of his injuries.

The Traffic Department of Forensic Investigation carried out a trace investigation at the scene. The police announced this morning that the cause of the collision has not yet been determined and that the investigation is still ongoing.

Two young lives torn from life. How cruel life can be sometimes. My condolences and prayers for the surviving relatives and first responders in coping with this tragic event. Rest in peace.
