A 23-year-old citizen died and nine others were injured in a crash, followed by the rollover of a passenger vehicle, while serving a taxi, which occurred on Friday, in the municipality of Cuvango, bound for Lubango. The accident occurred at 3 pm, at kilometer 50, a section that connects the commune of Galangue and the sector of Capapala, which is 60 kilometers from the municipal headquarters of Cuvango.
The Toyota vehicle, model Land Cruiser, was on the Chipindo/Lubango section and was supposedly transporting candidates returning from Chipindo from the entrance test for the Public Education Competition. Speaking about the incident, the spokesperson for the National Police in Huíla, inspector Benedito Walter, stated that the driver intended to overtake on a curve at excessive speed and was unable to control the vehicle.
He added that the driver, with minor injuries, is in police custody, while the injured were promptly taken to the Cuvango municipal hospital, where they are receiving medical and medication assistance, although some may be transferred to Lubango.
He called on drivers to observe the rules of the Highway Code, transmitted daily in road awareness campaigns by traffic regulatory agents, in order to avoid similar situations.
