Accident in which train hit scheduled bus not the fault of the bus driver | inland

The accident in which a train pierced a bus in Bergen op Zoom last October is not the fault of the bus driver. The bus probably came to a standstill due to a technical defect, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported on Thursday.

The bus driver was initially considered a suspect. But research has shown that he cannot be blamed. The OM says that the investigation into the incident has now been completed.

The bus came to a stop on October 17 at a level crossing at the Marconilaan. There were no passengers on the bus and the driver was able to get away in time.

The collision caused considerable damage. The bus was broken in half by the collision and the train derailed. As a result, no trains could run between Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal for some time.

There were 85 passengers on the train, everyone was unharmed. However, the train driver and the conductor were extremely shocked by the collision, the NS said. “Colleagues have collected them to talk about their experiences,” a NS spokesman said earlier.
