Accident in Gadmen BE: Road closed for hours

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, a motorcyclist was involved in an accident in Gadmen (BE) and fell down an embankment (see last report: Accident on H11: Road closed between Nessental and Furen).

The Bern Cantonal Police were notified of a self-inflicted accident involving a motorcyclist in Gadmen (municipality of Innertkirchen) shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. According to current information, a motorcyclist was travelling on the Sustenstrasse towards Innertkirchen when, for reasons that have yet to be clarified, he left the road and subsequently fell several meters down the embankment. The man was injured.

After being rescued using a turntable ladder, the injured person was flown to hospital by a Rega helicopter. Due to the complex work required to recover the motorcycle using a crane, the affected section of road had to be closed completely for around two hours. Traffic was then diverted in alternate directions.

In addition to various services from the Bern Cantonal Police and a Rega helicopter, specialists from the Swiss Alpine Rescue and the Innertkirchen and Meiringen fire departments were also on duty. The Bern Cantonal Police have begun investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
