Accident in Esslingen: woman and two children died

Serious accident on Tuesday in Esslingen: Three pedestrians were hit by a car on the sidewalk and died on site. An expert report should clarify how the accident occurred.

On Tuesday afternoon around 5 p.m. a serious traffic accident occurred on a connecting road between Esslingen-Weil and Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt. A 39-year-old woman and her two sons, aged three and six, were fatally injured.

On Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. SWR Aktuell reported on the accident on TV:

Driver leaves the road – mother and children die

According to the police, a 54-year-old driver skidded for unknown reasons and left the road. The driver’s SUV struck the three pedestrians on a sidewalk. The mother and her two children died from their serious injuries at the scene of the accident.

According to police, the driver was taken to a hospital and treated as an outpatient. He was not seriously injured, as a police spokesman told SWR on Wednesday morning. Another driver involved, whose vehicle the person who caused the accident collided with, was also treated as an outpatient in hospital. He also did not suffer any serious injuries, police said.

Suspicion of negligent homicide: report is intended to clarify the course of events

“At the moment there is nothing to suggest that it was an intentional act,” said a police spokesman early on Wednesday morning. An investigation has now been initiated against the driver on suspicion of negligent homicide. “This always happens when someone dies in traffic who did not cause the accident themselves,” a police spokeswoman told SWR.

A blood sample was taken from the driver, which police said could take some time to test. There is currently no suspicion of alcohol or drugs, said the spokeswoman. The 54-year-old’s car was seized by investigators. The Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office has ordered an expert report on the course of the accident. The police do not expect results for several weeks.
