RIO – An accident between a crane truck, two buses and some cars left one person dead and 11 injured in the late afternoon of Tuesday, near number 1,225 of Alameda São Boaventura, in Fonseca, in Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of River.
According to the Fire Department, men from the 3rd GBM (Niterói) and 20th GBM (São Gonçalo) were called to the location at 6:06 pm. A woman, identified as Sandra Corrêa, 70, was rescued in a corporate ambulance, but she could not resist the injuries and died on her way to the Azevedo Lima State Hospital, which is close to the accident.
Two other men, identified as José Mendonça, 75 years old, and Francisco Mendonça, 74, were rescued in serious condition at the same health unit. Three women, identified as Edielene Souza, 51, Margareth Ribeiro, 48, and Eliana Varga, 56, were taken to the Alberto Torres State Hospital, in São Gonçalo.
According to publications on social networks, a crane truck had lost its brakes and hit the bus. Other cars could not have braked in time and also collided.
On Twitter, Nittrans agents reported that company professionals guide drivers in the region. “Attention. Serious accident in Alameda, near the ascent of Caixa D’Água, in the direction of Caramujo. Redouble attention,” the statement said.
