Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

News of the death of the controversial artist Nabi Muhammad, Lars Vilks, is widely discussed in cyberspace. Vilks is said to have died in a collision between a truck and a police car near Markyrd.

At the time, Vilks was driving with the police guarding him, local media reported TT.

In SVT, one of the former police guard Vilks revealed some oddities about this accident. He spoke on condition of anonymity.

Vilks said the police guarding Vilks were competent and experienced people. They are not beginners, and they have a very good education, he said.

He also said Vilks’ car was checked regularly.

“It seems to me that it is the greatest bad luck that has made it this way. Cars are checked regularly, you never drive with bad tires.”

Even so, he also said it was natural for drivers to lose control when the front tire of their vehicle exploded on the highway.

“Imagine you’re driving a couple of tons and getting a tire burst on the front wheel. I don’t think any driver can avoid that.”

This local news agency also said the investigation into the case that occurred Sunday (3/10) is still ongoing.

Not only that, it was conveyed that the vehicle in which Vilks and two police officers were traveling was on the wrong track. However, the cause is still unclear.

Police theorized it was a possible explosion from one of the car’s tires. Not only that, there are also indications that this incident occurred because the vehicle was traveling at high speed.

“This is a very tragic incident. It is now important for all of us that we do everything we can to investigate what happened and what caused the collision,” Swedish police said in a statement Monday.

Launch The Guardian, local media said the car in which Vilks was traveling at high speed. A witness told Aftonbladet newspaper the driver appeared to have lost control. The truck did not have time to turn and the two vehicles collided at incredible speed, he told the newspaper.

The two vehicles caught fire and the three passengers in the car, reportedly died at the scene.

Sweden’s National Police Chief, Anders Thornberg, said the full results of the investigation could take a relatively long time. Meanwhile, Swedish Culture Minister Amanda Lind called it a very tragic traffic accident.

In Sweden, 75-year-old Vilks is known for building a statue made of driftwood in one of Sweden’s natural reserves without a permit. His actions sparked a lengthy legal dispute and earned him a fine. However, his sculptures attract tens of thousands of visitors every year.

However, Vilks has often received threats since he drew a sketch of the Prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog 13 years ago. Dogs are considered unclean by conservative Muslims, and Islamic law generally opposes the depiction of the prophet in any form for fear that the image could lead to idolatry.

As a result of his actions, Vilks was hunted by Al-Qaeda. His head was valued at US$100,000 or equivalent to Rp1 billion in September 2007.
