The party consultants appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office, the offended party and the sole suspect filed the surveys carried out to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident that occurred to Alex Zanardi last June 19 when, while traveling on his handbike, crashed into a bus along the provincial 146 between Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia, in the Sienese area.
The only suspect is the driver of the truck, deed defined due precisely for the purposes of the technical assessments to be performed. His defense then appointed the engineer Mattia Strangi from Bologna as a consultant to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident, while the Zanardi family appointed the engineer Giorgio Cavallin from Padua. Engineer Dario Vangi, already an expert in the investigation into the death of Franco Ballerini during a rally in 2010. This was reported by Corriere della Sera.
According to the findings of the consultants, neither the road surface nor the handbike would have had any problems. The mantle would have been not damaged, i.e. without defects, depressions or holes. As for the handbike, the breakages occurred when the collision with the truck occurred, while the vehicle would have had no problems nor mechanical breakages before impact.
The hypotheses remain about what caused Zanardi to skid: definitively excluded that the cell phone and the navigator could be among the causes of the loss of control of the handbike, among the hypotheses put forward also the high speed in the downhill stretch of road.
