Accident! Accident! | Current plane crashes

Swiss Airbus A320-200 | Zurich (ZRH), Switzerland

There was a Christmas scare for passengers on Swiss International Airlines flight LX2806 from Zurich to Geneva. The Airbus A320 took off and smoke was noticed in the cabin while it was still climbing. The pilots immediately returned to the departure airport and landed safely in Kloten just under 20 minutes after take-off.

The HB-IJI registered car was still ashore days later. There was a replacement aircraft for the passengers and it was a good three hours before it was ready for use and the flight could begin.

Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 | Chicago (ORD), USA

There have been several incidents involving Lufthansa’s jumbo fleet this month. In early December, a Boeing 747-8 with the registration D-ABYD operated flight LH431 from Chicago O’Hare to Frankfurt and had to abort the climb. Due to problems with the pressurized cabin, the flight altitude was changed and was initially lowered again. In the further course, the ascent was initially continued and then it was decided to return to the goal.

To do this, the fuel had to be unloaded first and about 4 hours later the landing took place at O’Hare. Passengers reported ear problems, but oxygen masks were not activated. The flight was canceled and the car was subsequently flown to Germany.

Iberia Airbus A330-200 | Montevideo (MVD), Uruguay

A similar incident occurred with EC-MLP, an Iberia Airbus A330. Flight IB6012 is from Montevideo to Madrid, on 1 December there were problems after take off, the pressurized cabin was not fitted. The flight altitude was left, the crew then decided to turn back to land in Montevideo. The flight ended about two hours later.

Authorities ordered an investigation and the affected plane was grounded for several days.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines Canadair CRJ900 | Dusseldorf (DUS), Germany

The EI-FPR CRJ9 arrived as SK627 from Copenhagen and was on final approach to Düsseldorf Airport. Just before touchdown, the pilots circled and climbed back up. The landing then took place about 25 minutes after the first attempt. In an explanatory announcement, the captain reported problems with the steering (steering motor).

After landing, the jet was removed from the runway and the return flight to the hub in Denmark was cancelled.
