On the night of Friday (February 17) there was a tragic traffic accident on the A1 near Hagen.
A car was traveling on the A1 in the direction of Cologne when it apparently ran out of fuel and was therefore able to stand on the hard shoulder. When the driver (24) wanted to get out of the car, the dog escaped and ran onto the road.
A second car with a 23-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger from Münster noticed the situation and stopped behind the 24-year-old’s car. The 20-year-old tried to catch the dog again, was hit by a car, thrown into the left lane and run over by another car.
As the police announced, the emergency doctor on site could only determine the death of the young man. The dog was caught with injuries.
A1: Fatal traffic accident – motorway closed
Rescue workers took care of those affected on site, and emergency chaplains were also present. A traffic accident team from Dortmund secured the accident tracks.
The A1 was closed between the Westhofener Kreuz and the Hagen Nord exit until 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Traffic was largely diverted.
