Updates this had become a debate in the public sphere in January. Facebook has also relaxed the deadline by giving users until May 15 to make decisions about the new privacy rules.
If you do not accept the new terms and conditions on or before this date, WhatsApp will block you from sending or receiving any messages via the platform.
Approaching May 15, report Giz China, WhatsApp is now sending reminders about the new terms and conditions. A few days ago, a number of users got messages pop-up right after the app is launched.
Message pop-up this is to remind the user of their new terms and privacy policy. The part of the message reads “Accept this update to continue using WhatsApp”.
WhatsApp has also had implications if users do not accept the new privacy rules. The company said in a posting blog: “WhatsApp will not delete your account. However, you will not have the full functionality of WhatsApp until you receive … For a short time, you will be able to receive calls and notifications, but will not be able to read or send messages from the application.”
In order to suppress user emotions, WhatsApp said, “As a reminder, we are building a new way to chat or shop with businesses on WhatsApp that is completely optional … Private messages will always be end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can’t read or listen to them. In the coming weeks, we will feature banners on WhatsApp that provide more information that people can read at their own pace. We’ve also included more information to try and solve the problems we’re hearing about. Later, we will start reminding people to review and accept this update to keep using WhatsApp.“
In conclusion, if you like this application, you have no choice but to accept the terms.
What’s really new in these “Terms and Conditions”? Late last year, there were allegations that the app needed a way for Facebook to collect more personal data. Only the company emphatically denies these claims.
The new provisions emphasized not giving Facebook access to any data from users’ personal information. In fact, this will only impact conversations with business accounts.
