“Academy of Performing Arts of Spain and HOLA strengthen collaboration in New York”

The Academy of Performing Arts of Spain signed an agreement in New York with the Hispanic Organization of Latino Actors in New York (HOLA) in order to strengthen the collaboration between both entities.

The agreement was signed by Cayetana Guillén Cuervo and Ana María Estrada, presidents of the Academy and HOLA, respectively, after a working lunch in which both parties underlined the potential to work together in all the performing arts, beginning with theater, dance , the circus and the lyric.

The collaboration between the two institutions began at the Talía Awards gala held in Madrid on March 27: there, to the surprise of some, an award was given for the “best contemporary Hispanic production of performing arts in New York”. , which was for the play “Lecciones de vida” by Eduardo Galán, performed at the Thalia Theatre.

This award, which is intended to continue over time and be given each year to one of the more than twenty “Latin theaters” in New York -which present plays in Spanish or in a bilingual version-, is an example of the joint activities that the agreement signed today wants to promote, explained to EFE Galán, vice president of the Academy and also present on the trip.

The possibility of carrying out residences for Spanish artists in New York, and vice versa -in any case with young people, under 35 years of age, Galán specified-, is also included in the agreement.

In the field of classical theatre, the invitation to classical theater professionals in New York to the two major festivals of the field in Spain (Mérida and Almagro) is contemplated in order to later promote the representation of Spanish classics in New York, even if it is in English. .

Those responsible for HOLA emphasized, for their part, the advice that the Academy can provide to the world of Latino art in New York to achieve greater institutionalization, which necessarily involves some kind of affiliation to that future “New York Latino Academy”.

In addition, the vice president of HOLA, Pablo Andrade, stressed that contact with the Academy has helped them to realize that their organization has to open up to all professions of the performing arts, so that in the not too distant future the ” A” of the acronym does not designate only the actors, but all the “artists” in general.
