Researchers Mauricio Oyarzo and Roberto Herrera, from the School of Business and Administration of the University of Concepción, Chillán campus, actively participated in the “Workshop on Regional Economics MIPP & FEN-UTalca” along with prominent national researchers. This meeting took place on October 12 and 13, 2023 and was co-organized by the Millennium Institute of Market Imperfections and Public Policies (MIPP) and the Doctorate in Economics of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Talca.
The papers presented by the academics were the following: Roberto Herrera: “The economic impact of new regions: Evidence from Chile (Co-author: Dany Jaimovich, University of Talca); and Mauricio Oyarzo: “How the distribution of mining windfall mechanisms shapes the spatial economy of extractive countries?” (Co-authors: Dusan Paredes and Sebastián Cuellar, Universidad Católica del Norte).
In the opinion of Roberto Herrera “the essence of these meetings lies in the presentation of works in progress, which allows a select group of specialists to contribute new points of view that contribute to improving the quality of the articles and, ultimately, enrich research in the area of regional economy”.
Meanwhile, according to Dr. Oyarzo “in this instance we were able to collect feedback from prominent academics in the field of Regional Economy. In addition, we contribute to the discussion about the work of the discipline and current trends in research, that is, what is on the edge of the discussion and how to influence public policies with a spatial approach.”
The event brought together distinguished national researchers who focused on the analysis of problems related to the Regional Economy. Among the attendees were representatives of the University of Talca, the University of Chile, the Universidad Católica del Norte, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, the University of O’Higgins and the EAN of the UdeC.
