Academician Granitski and Prof. Hristov from Burgas: Who do we punish and what do we pay when we don’t vote? – 2024-10-25 08:02:00

Who are we punishing by not voting?

Who do we punish when we don’t vote – the rulers or ourselves and who pays the price of the processes behind which we have been hiding for 30 years with the phrase “they lied to us again”? Rhetorical questions asked by one of the most famous figures in the contemporary cultural life of Bulgaria, Academician Ivan Granitski and the bright sociologist of our time, Prof. Ivo Hristov.

Their answers pointed to the call for public maturity and responsibility and provoked the citizens in the crowded hall of the “Adriana Budevska” drama theater in Burgas. The exciting interactive meeting with the audience on the topic “The Irony of History” took place with free admission. It was initiated by Eng. Petar Kne, leader of the list of candidates for people’s representatives of the “BSP – UNITED LEFT” coalition for the 2nd MIR Burgas.

The audience rewarded them with applause

“From my long experience in parliament, I have come to the conclusion that it is good to invite people smarter than us to say what they think about us and about the roots that lead to the current situation. I am aware that their assessment will not be good. Recently, MPs like to read because they want to talk. The MP today knows and can do everything. He is self-sufficient, teaches everyone something. He first speaks and then thinks… Sometimes the latter is not reached at all. That’s why I chose at the end of our campaign to invite people who would remind us what parliaments we had and what personalities, statesmen and sages were in them,” said the host, Eng. Petar Kanev.

According to the sociologist Prof. Ivo Hristov, in Bulgaria today there is a critical lack of self-organization, as our ancestors had it. His prediction is that if there is no awareness of personal and collective responsibility, the great geopolitical projection will sweep us away.

“A complex economy requires complex people. And today we are witnessing “leaders” and followers who cannot imagine complex social systems and we, in Bulgaria, are in a social stupor. But this does not interest either politicians or the population. Leaders in our history did not expect anyone to provide them with freedom, conditions or opportunities. They made them, fought for them and defended them. And since we have not won a large part of these rights, we do not value them, in the end we will lose them,” said Prof. Hristov. According to him, the country at this stage lacks a survival instinct related to public responsibility: “We have come to terms with the rape of common sense and the result is the collapse of Bulgarian society.”

Academician Ivan Granitski defined Engineer Petar Kanev as one of the most well-read Bulgarian MPs, with a serious contribution to culture, and expressed hope that the participants in the next parliament will listen more to his statesmanship decisions.

“These parliaments are the downfall of the self-proclaimed political elite class of deputies, which with each subsequent National Assembly lowers the quality and dignity of Bulgarian politicians. This also leads to the impossibility of starting normal conversations between the parties. That is why we chose to raise the topic of the irony of history – a term introduced by Hegel, which gives us the opportunity to follow the events from antiquity to the present day in a time when catastrophe is observed not only in our country, but also in the so-called European Union,” said Academician Ivan Granitski and supported his words with historical examples from all over Europe.

The finale, after thunderous applause and questions from the audience, was set by the leader of “Stand Up, Bulgaria”, the formation part of the largest left-wing coalition with the 28 ballot – Maya Manolova. She defined the candidates for people’s representatives of “BSP – UNITED LEFT” in Burgas as one of the brightest and strongest lists in the country, combining the energy of active and young politicians with the established experience of strong authorities in Bulgarian politics.

Every single guest of the event received a special gift – a book by “Zachariy Stoyanov” publishing house.
