The Academic Council of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” came out with a position against Prof. Darina Grigorova, distinguishing herself from her opinion expressed to pogled.info. Prof. Grigorova is a historian, but apparently the academics did not like her analysis. She is the author of several books, including “Freedom and autocracy. Russian liberalism at the end of the 19th century” and “The Phoenix Empire”, as well as numerous scientific studies and articles that have been published at home and abroad.

“On the occasion of the numerous protest letters received against the theses and ideas launched in Darina Grigorova’s interview, the Academic Council of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” states that it categorically distinguishes itself from the position expressed by her. We believe that materials with similar content incite additionally existing in the country public tension and serve the interests of the propaganda related to the war in Ukraine. The position expressed by Darina Grigorova in the interview is her personal opinion, which has nothing to do with the spirit of Sofia University as a center of humanity, reason and academicism. We find inadmissible such behavior on the part of a university professor, especially since the interview also openly propagates political ideas that directly affect current public life in Bulgaria and damage the authority and prestige of the oldest university in the country.

What are the highlights of the interview?

The main topics that Prof. Grigorova commented on were the dismantling of the Monument to the Soviet Army and the war in Ukraine.

She defined what was happening to the monument as a vandalistic and un-Bulgarian act and it was “cutting in the most butchery way, not dismantling”. Grigorova believes that “the purely psychological effect of the bacchanalia with the destruction of the Monument to the Soviet Army aims to create a well-founded Bulgarian phobia in Russia”.

According to her, not all Ukrainians are infected by Russophobia. “It seems to me that the Third Ukrainian Front is not only a part of the Second World War. Do you know how many Ukrainians and Little Russians are on the side of Russia and how gladly they would be on the side of Russia if something happened, bigger conflict,” she says.

In the interview, she calls Zelensky impure while commenting on Arestović’s political career.

The professor believes that the situation in Russia is not like the North Korean consensus.

“Everything is strange, everything is patriotic. No, part of the intelligentsia is not satisfied,” she says.

Perhaps one of her most controversial statements in the interview is that the denazification of Ukraine is a matter of time, and then the denazification of Bulgaria may follow.

Volgin protected her

BNR journalist Petar Volgin, against whom there is also frequent dissatisfaction because of his positions, defended Prof. Grigorova. He described the academic council as “Kyriaxtefchovtsi”.

“These people are afraid. But they are really very afraid. This and the most important thing that stands out after you read the declaration of some superiors from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. These superiors really want the powerful of the day to notice their “distinction” by Prof. Darina Grigorova. So why this rush, why this fear? Simply because Prof. Grigorova expresses ideas that are in stark contrast to the official Euro-Atlantic ideology. This is why the university bosses, called the Academic Council, are impatient to emphasize how much they do not agree with any kind of opposition. “Here they are speaking against the authority of His Majesty the Sultan, and that is why I am coming out,” said Kyriak Stefchov. These are the same – Kyriaxtefchov people who come out whenever someone shows courage.

And Prof. Grigorova is not only a brave person. She is the author of many books and scientific articles that show an extremely deep knowledge of the history and present of Russia. And it is from the position of this knowledge that she makes her intelligent analyzes that so irritate the Euro-Atlanticians. Because they are not smart. They don’t read. They use the supports of official political correctness. That is why they are so afraid of people like Prof. Grigorova. Mediocrity is always afraid of talent. Therefore, mediocrity is always plural. The anonymous bosses against the person Prof. Darina Grigorova. I don’t know how this fight will end. But I am absolutely sure that Bulgaria needs personalities like Prof. Grigorova. From individuals who have the courage to think”.
