Acad. Petrunov: Certificate based on antibodies is a mistake – Bulgaria

Immunologist Acad. Bogdan Petrunov considers it a mistake for the authorities to give a health certificate to people with antibodies.

“There is no norm to show how many of these antibodies you need to have in order to be protected, this is strictly individual, each organism reacts differently,” Petrunov told Nova TV.

The scientist predicts that this decision will result in an outflow of vaccination. “Without mass immunization, over 80 and 90% coverage will not deal with the virus. This is impossible both theoretically and practically,” he said.

He explained that over time, the level of antibodies decreases, and vaccination stimulates cellular immunity, which is the basis for protection against the coronavirus. “The important thing is the cells that carry the immunological memory, which carry the memory of immunization or illness, and when you meet the virus again, they begin to produce new antibodies,” explained Acad. Petrunov. Therefore, according to him, it is not an obstacle even for people with high levels of antibodies to be vaccinated.
