Harder than expected
Only in March Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to the Swedish national team after almost five years. However, the 39-year-old star striker from AC Milan will not take part in the upcoming European Championship. His knee injury in the 3-0 win of Rossoneri against Juventus is apparently more severe than expected. Instead of just the remaining Serie A games, Ibrahimovic will also miss the pan-European tournament, the Swedish Football Association announced on Saturday.
“Of course it’s sad, especially for Zlatan, but also for us. I hope he will be back on the field as soon as possible, ”said national coach Janne Andersson, according to the Swedish news agency TT.
Ibrahimovic has played 118 caps for Sweden so far and scored 62 goals. After his return from Los Angeles Galaxy to Milan in January 2020, the attacker had mostly presented himself in top form and thus justified the return to the national team, which he had left after the Euro 2016. In 27 competitive games this season he scored 17 goals and made three assists for the revitalized Milan. In the meantime, however, he repeatedly had to struggle with minor or major injuries.
