AC Milan star and Chelsea target Rafael Leao has hinted at a possible move to the Premier League, despite recently signing a new contract in Italy.
Leao has been one of AC Milan’s most important players for the past four seasons, registering 40 goals and more than 30 assists in more than 150 appearances for the club.
Leao’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2024 and as talks continue, a host of Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation in the hope that he may be available.
Chelsea have been heavily linked over the last two transfer windows and many expected them to sign Leao in the January window, but other targets were signed and they moved away from the man. But they will return for the man at the end of the season.
But that idea seemed to have ended when he recently agreed a new contract with the Italian giants that should have ended all speculation about his future with the club.
Such is football though, he has admitted his desire to one day play in the Premier League, he said: “Anyone wants to play in the Premier League because it is a very competitive league.
‘It has captivating football, great teams and a worldwide audience.
“Serie A is currently very well positioned in international football, but I definitely have to say… ‘The Premier League in the future.’
There’s something there in Leao’s potential, he really is a special talent and could be a great long-term investment, but not for that £100m he’s being talked about.
He won’t be coming to the Premier League anytime soon, but he is certainly a true star of the future for Milan and the game, and one day Chelsea.
